WHERE IS MY MUSE?

I just plain have the blahs!!! Thought that was suppose to be in February? I cannot CREATE anything. Nope! I don't feel like it. My art  room is full of inspiration from all over the world.

I took a Copic markers class at my local scrap store a few months back, love them, haven't created a thing. I see lots of cutesy things being made with the markers, but I am not cutesy. I am vintage, I am second guessing myself on these markers. I want to use them so bad, but are they really for me?

Well I do have an appointment at the dentist later today so maybe that will help, somehow I doubt that. Maybe my problem is Olympic fever, 17 days of fun, bam and it is over. Where ever my muse has run off to, hope she comes back soon!

And look what I received in the mail just because she is the sweetest person. Nancy Donaldson from All Pulped Out http://www.allpulpedout.blogspot.com/ an encaustic painting that is so beautiful and full of texture. Nancy made tons of these and the most beautiful cards and sent them out. Be sure to check out her blog.
Thanks so much Nancy, I love this.

Debby, your belongings are delightful - so many beautiful things! My Muse went missing recently andI was bereft. I mooched and moodled until she showed up again. Hope yours is back soon because I love what you do when you two are collaborating! x

Apparently your muse and MY muse are on vacation together. I was wondering where she was!!!!
Watching the Olympics sure was fun, but it took a chunk outta my nights, like you! And I bought those Copic Markers, too! Haven't used them either. What's up with us girlfriend???? AND, I had dental stuff done and it didn't help, so don't count on that! :)
So, come on over and we'll have a cuppa and try and make some art. Wouldn't THAT be fun? Anyhow, let me know if your find my muse and I'll keep an eye out for yours...they've got to come home sometime!
Hugs xoxoxo...Jan

Oh Debby, your art- inspirations are fabulous.
So precious is every single piece.
Never the less I know, what you are talking about.
Last september, when my muse was obviously on a vacation, I felt so terrible uncreative.
But she came back soon, with new energy to support me.
Allow her a little holiday, she will be thankful.

You know how much we love cleaning and laundry and we just have to take a break right? Well, creative endeavors are just as much fun don't you think? LOL! Seriously, you make fantasic fantasy items and sometimes our brains just need to rest. Read a book, a poem, call a friend, look at blogs. Hugs, Jennifer

Hi Debby, where ever your muse is....mine is right there with it. I can't seem to create anything....just can't get my mojo going.

It will come back soon! Hold on.

Debby, I go through several periods a year when my muse decides she needs a vaca and off she goes - no warning, no indication to me when she will return. Very rude of her (hee, NOT Canadian at all eh?)

I do think ennui has set in with many of us as the games have come to a close. I know that I am still trying to get back into some kind of routine - never a strong point with me anyway.

The images of your work above are fabulous! Your muse will return - I know from experience. *smiles*

Sue;)

Hi Debby,
I went through about 9 months of blahs - no muse. I think what was happening is that I was rearranging things in my mind, focusing in on what I REALLY wanted to be doing.
Don't worry. Your muse will come back, and when she does, don't be surprised when you jump another level up in creativity!
Love your blog - and I love all the inspiration you share. Up. Down. Sideways. It's all good.
Hugs,
Zuzu

Muses are fickle things - they really do come and go as they please. I've no idea what a copic marker is! I'll have to google it! If I see your muse I'll send her back pronto!

Hi Debby,
Sometimes our Muses need a getaway I guess! Very cute post! I hope a fresh new idea for using the Copics comes to you. You can always breathe some new life into an old vintage photograph with those yummy markers.
Have a great week.

Debby, I'm in exactly the same place. I'm ready to create - I want to create - I'm just not inspired to create.

I think I'll go out for lunch and have a martini.

If that won't do it, nothing will!

sometimes that's just the way it is...I think its actually a deep processing we go through...so don't look at it as blah time, look at it as 'your mind going through a much needed recharge...and a processing of subconscious thoughts waiting to burst open into creativity....!!!
just don't force it!

it will come....

ciao!!!

So sorry to hear your muse has gone on a winter break! But I love seeing all the wonderful art in your studio and feel sure that when the time is right this will inspire you and bring back the muse. Perhaps after the dentist visit! That would send my muse scuttling away too! Hope it's not too painful and can I suggest a hot chocolate with marshmallows afterwards. Always works for me!

Oh no, so many other people are in the same boat, and I am so sorry to hear that Debby, but it will come back don't worry :)
I don't think I've lost my muse, am just plain tired today and don't feel like creating anything, so I am going to catch up on some blogging, maybe that would help you too :)

Well, Miss Debby, it looks like many of the comments before mine are all going through the same thing - the missing muse syndrone (MMS). As the posters have noticed there are times that MMS decides to take a hike and let you manage on your own. This can be due to several reasons: 1) you have ignored said Miss Muse and watched way too much Olympic games featuring those red maple leaf hunks and cuties; 2) Miss Muse was just depressed because you became depressed because there are no more winter games for four years and both of you will be four years older; or 3) A muse gotta do what a muse gotta do. So don't over think it, roll with the tide, send me all your beautiful inspirational pieces featured in this blog post and your Muse, my Muse, and me will be very happy campers.....OK, I'll send your Miss Muse back when I receive the art work. Yes, I have to admit it, I'm holding her hostage and she is eating me out of house and home. You have spoiled her way too much. Love the art work! Love you! Take it easy on yourself, hugs,

Debby, your muse is probably just hiding! Draw her out by playing with your favorite things. gather some stuff, sit down & make yourself GO! that usually works for me. it will be fun and probably kick her in the butt! xo lenna

What wonderful inspiration around you! And such a lovely addition from Nancy...

I'd say pull out those Copic markers and find a way to make them yours. (I've been wanting to take a class at the store as well but haven't gotten around to it.)

Perhaps with a little play your muse will find her way back in. :)

I get this often as well. It just takes off and I have no idea why. But what i do know is when it happens I take a break completely. I do something totally different than my usual artwork. Could be anything other than what your comfortable with. This forces you to be uninhibited in anyway because you are doing something unfamiliar to your norm. Don't make it a hugely detailed project, something fun and silly. You'd be surprised what happens. Your muse comes back! works for me every time. It takes the pressure off and you start thinking in a new creative way which always brings back you familiar and favorite muse! Good Luck!

Debby, I'm sure your muse will return soon...maybe she needed a little holiday and is sunning herself on some tropical island as we speak! All of your treasures are beautiful x

I have felt the same way lately, which is one reason I haven't been blogging. All my creative juices have been going to the crafting. Congratulations to your wonderful Canada on hosting an amazing Olympic season and for all their wins too!

Cheer up Debby my friend, your girl with the curl has arrived this morning and I'm bringing a dump truck full of pixie dust. I know you are not motivated by cute but the pixie can do wonders for down in the dumps moments. Between going to the dentist and the Olympics ending I can see why the day felt sad.
I LOVED watching the Olympics. Vancouver is where I was born. I may have mentioned I'm a displaced Canadian living just over the border in the USA. I came down long ago when I was a little girl but what family I have left is in B.C. and Saskatchewan. My mom was from Assiniboia and my dad from Saskatoon. I'm very proud of what Canada accomplished. It was a grand event for sure! Come over and see my bears, they'll make you smile today!

Debby,
The muses must be having an exclusive Muse conference! I have lots and lots of things that I was very excited about lying around (a new spinning wheel, paperclay, patterns) yet I'm not inspired to do anything. I do seem to be able to muster up the strength to think about doing things...maybe that counts??? Love your stuff, you're awesome!

Hi Debby, I so glad to hear I'm not alone! Maybe our muses ran off together! I can't seem to do anything really creative lately.
Oh but your encaustic art from Nancy is awesome! Maybe I should follow her lead and play with wax.? hum ... proubly just burn myself! LOL
I was thrilled to win one of her pieces! Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Debby! We all go through these slumps in creativity. Our muses do return - sometimes it takes a bit longer than we'd like....

Julia Phillips Smith said...

Wow - I love all your inspiration art. Especially the woman with the fringe, fourth picture down.

If you're waiting for the Muse, I always take some time and fill up the well. Do some things that inspire you, that feeds your Muse. For me that means watching films, listening to music, going to live performances - something that sparks my creativity. The blahs will lift when the Muse is full.

Don't worry!!!! Your muse will return! I promise. We all go through these times of feeling like nothing is happening. It's truly scary, isn't it! One thinks that maybe one has created everything that we have stored away in our creative psyche. But...truly, it's only waiting to re-emerge all refreshed and ready with new inspiration! Again...I promise! It happens to me so frequently. In fact, today was one of those days. So what did I do? I went out and did something very BAD! I had a burger and fries at McDonalds! Oh my! And I made some changes in my studio so when I return tomorrow it is all ready for me!
Blessings!
Diane

Well, if it helps, I didn't do a heck of a lot of anything other than watch Olympics for two weeks. And after a flurry of activity prepping tags for an Alice in Wonderland swap, I'm in that slump, too. But I know it'll pass. Yours will too -- especially with all that inspiration around.

I've been fighting the same syndrome. It even lasted a bit longer than I hoped. I call it the OWOH postpartum art letdown. I think I'm finally back on track, or at least I'm getting there. But it's been a real struggle and my art and blog show it, and suffer. Like all things, this too shall pass.
