Buttons....

I was messing around in my art space today and wandered upon a jar of some of my fav buttons. I emptied the jar and starting touching, feeling, and yep just plain playing with them. Then my mind started to wander, where have these buttons been, what pretties had they been sewn on, whose teeny, tiny fingers had touched them! I wonder, did they come from someone's favorite dress, or did they come from an old jar full of buttons. Did they use to be my Grandmother's buttons, maybe my Mother's. It is all a wonder, but isn't it wonderful that we can have these wonderful things in our collections to make our minds wander. So the next time you all get your buttons out to play with, remember it is fun to wonder, where did they come from?

I used to play for hours in my Granny's gal canning jar full of buttons, some with bits of fabric still attached. I recognized some of them from Gram and Gramp's clothes...thanks for the sweet memories!

I have jars of buttons in my studio that I play with, too, and love gluing to a page here and there. But my favorite thoughts of buttons are... when my daughter was little she would visit my mother and go to the sewing room closet and pull out the big glass jar of buttons from both my grandmothers. My daughter would dump all the buttons out and line them up on the rug. We even have a photo of one of her "creations". Mom, Grannie and Grandma have all passed, but this memory of their buttons still lives on! Thanks for the wonderful memory.

WOW!!! I did not expect so many comments on my buttons. I am so happy to be reading everyone's button tales. Amazing, the memories these small beauties can bring back to so many of us.

Debby this is really meaningful to me today. My Meme is ailing and I have her buttons. I talked about them in my book House of Belief. She was poor and when she and my Pop became successful she collected clothes. Her clothes symbolize overcoming.
