Get Your Whimsy On….

I am giggling to myself! I received a call from my sister the other day for my birthday. It was your regular birthday call. Happy Birthday to you, how are you, what are you up too and then whamo… She lit into me big time. Shocked yes, irritated????, oh yeah!!! Seems as though she had been visiting with my other sister a few days before the call and she just happened to have everything that I had ever made her laying out…lol…The first problem was a book that I had made for my sister, as I was getting it explained to me I couldn’t figure out what the heck she was talking about and as she explained more about it I figured it out. My sister had been married 30 years, ten years ago and I made this atc book for her and why would I make that for her when I know that my other sister would absolutely love it more…lol….I usually try to make something similar for each of them as my eldest sister is known to go into fits if someone gets something she thinks she should have, that is why I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about in the beginning of the conversation. Once I got it figured out, I told her to let me know when she gets 30 years in and I will be glad to make her a book..silence on the other end.
Then it was unto the next problem…hmmmm…we want to know why you don’t make us cards anymore, we love them and you just go and buy cards at the store the last few years. Oh really, like I have nothing to do other than worry about getting cards made for you, it is so much easier going to the store…well even Bryan thinks that it is crazy that you go to the store. Oh good, lets bring Bryan into this now.
I think the real reason, other than time was that I was never really sure if they did appreciate them or even like them. But hey, who am I too say, obviously they do like them. So with that being said, I got to thinking that I should probably make a few cards since my sisters,  my aunt and I are all hooking up next week for lunch. I forgot how much I do like making them. I pulled out some beautiful new papers that Caryl sent me for my birthday and of course my Paper Whimsy images and just played. Fun, cards finished and I can relax knowing that we won’t have a card issue while out for lunch.

First of all . . . . Happy, Happy Birthday!!! I'm wishing you a year filled with happy memories, good health and lots of laughter and art.

Secondly . . . family has a way of making us feel guilty - NO MATTER WHAT!!!! It's just the way it is!!! However, that being said, I'm sure your sisters will LOVE these gorgeous cards!!! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Oh my! You've been holding out! These cards are fabulous. No wonder your sisters are complaining about not getting any! Wow! I love every single one of them.

Look at it this way, at least you have sisters to squabble (playfully) with. I only have daughters and we get along extremely well. But..I always wished I had a sister. Lucky you-two!

Well, I guess now you know, huh???? But if you aren't told how loved your cards and books and art are.............
I've been accused of similar things.
Your cards that you made are just delightfully Debby. Full of wonderful pieces and images (we all love PW don't we?) and beautifully done. I hope you are sending some to your sister!
BTW...love your music here. SO pretty!

Sounds like she nailed you! I hope that wasn't your present?! I bet they are going to love the cards when they get them. It's always nice to get a great reaction to something we've made and are proud of. It's part of the fun. Hope you had a Happy Birthday Debby!

Gorgeous work Debby - but the story - I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. How you chose to deal with it was perfect - we, your readers, get to see your talents expressed - inspiration plus, they get what they want, regardless of the guilt tactics employed :0) and you feel appreciated for your thoughtfulness AND rediscover how much you enjoy making them! All and all, a happy ending.

Debby,
I love this post. Thank goodness I only have one sister. But I can tell you she reads my blog & if I gift someone I had better make sure I made something for her too. Way before blogs I began the tradition of making gifts & cards for people. Mostly due to lack of funds, but I got such pleasure from it & I know that people cherish the handmade things so much more than a $20 thing from Macys. Last year I gave only handmade things for Christmas. If I didn't make it I bought it off etsy. The quality & beauty of all these talented artists (like you) are amazing! Guess you better start that book now. Lisa

Happy belated birthday to you. This is such a great post! It's funny how are friends and family get used to our heartfelt/handmade cards and gifts... even spoiled! I have friends with similar stories of family members getting upset because the handmade stuff has stopped. Well, I guess you can make it up to your sister next time!
Hugs,
Holly

Dear Debby:
I have three younger sisters, two younger brothers and 13 nieces and nephews. I used to make EVERYTHING for all of them each Christmas. I stopped when I never even received a thank you. (Forget the fact that they never remember MY birthday or give me a Christmas gift.) Then, they too, are experts at trying to get me to take the Guilt Trip. I know exactly how you feel.

Your cards are truly lovely. I hope they're appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
xoxo
